"Painful" is the word that best describes the relationships between Buffy, Spike, and Angel. That's never been clearer than in seasons 3 and 6 of BtVS and seasons 1 and 4 of Angel. These larger than life characters suffer horribly from physical torment, psychological stress, and the vagaries of love. Trixie's "Amen" addresses the consequences of decisions made in a vacuum and emotions fueled by fear. It's all about the pain of love.
