For ardent Buffy/Angel shippers, the development of the abusive relationship between Spike and Buffy in season 6 of BtVS was difficult to fathom. Avalon presents an alternate view in this tightly woven, action-packed, emotional story. The Buffy/Spike couple we see here is, I think, the one we should have seen. Avalon has certainly retained all the emotional baggage of the Slayer and the chipped vampire; it's just ... better.
